Our speaker is Martin Orkin, who has long-followed, and written about The Beatles and 1960s music.
In 1962, the charts were ruled by Elvis Presley, Neil Sedaka, Cliff Richard and The Shadows. By 1963 The Beatles arrived and changed everything upside down! This was an amazing time. Martin got to see the Beatles live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London in 1964. He's been a keen follower since.
During the late 60s and into the 70s, Martin Orkin tried his hand at songwriting - his only claim to fame is his song ‘Nancy’ released by Three’s Company in 1968 and published by Apple, The Beatles’ publishing company. His reward, a trivial cheque for royalties, was signed by George Harrison! He still has the cheque.
After retiring in 2010, Martin turned to books about the Beatles era and talking expertly about their history and their impact.
