Dr Seán Lang on PG Wodehouse

Our monthly speaker meeting is/was on Wednesday 16 October at Talking Point, Melbourn Science Park. Our speaker Dr Seán Lang is an historian, educationist, author and playwright who speaks frequently about current affairs on radio and television. His talk will be on PG Wodehouse.

Q: What did PG Wodehouse, the genial creator of Bertie Wooster and his manservant Jeeves, have to do with the decline and fall of the British Empire?

A: More than you might think! This talk will show you how Bertram and his aunts helped to bring down the mighty edifice of British Imperialism before you can say What ho!

As a regular BBC contributor, Dr Seán Lang has had a weekly history slot on Radio Cambridgeshire and often comments on political and history-related events on BBC Radio Essex and Look East. He has taught in schools and sixth-form colleges and was an education lecturer training history teachers before taking up his current post at Anglia Ruskin University, where he teaches modern British, European and imperial history. As well as academic work on British India and on the First World War, he has written works of popular history, including British History for Dummies, and a chapter in The Cambridge Companion to Winston Churchill.
