For many centuries the skills of craft industries were controlled by the Livery Companies but their influence faded as Britain became more industrialised. Yet the Livery movement has survived and many of the 110 companies are supporting education, offering scholarships, building and maintaining schools and financing organisations who care for the sick, the needy and the homeless.
Our speaker is David Williams, a historian and Freeman of the City of London. His work history includes being a sportswriter for the Sunday Mirror, a scriptwriter for Pathe Pictorial, a film producer working on documentary films for the BBC, the Armed Forces and Government departments. His various degrees cover History Sport History and Culture and Heritage Studies.
